The Saigon Baigur Dry Gin, Ho chi Minh's first premium craft gin, was developed in 2018 by Jochem Lisser and Florian Draaisma. Wanting to incorporate authentic Vietnamese botanicals into the gin, the pair travelled all over the country - from street markets in urban centres to remote mountain areas. It took two years to put together the final recipe with 12 regional and four classic botanicals.
Saigon Baigur takes its name from the region's ancient settlement; Baigur.
The dragon on the bottle is symbolic of this local mythological creature, which is said to not only represent power and prosperity, but also produce rain, which is essential for agriculture and therefore the botanical ingredients used in gin.
To add to all this, a very special bottle was chosen. The design for this - inspired by a dragon's egg from Vietnamese mythology - came from Dutch designer Pim Tiemessen.
