The Duchess Ten Cane Distillery Trinidad 13yo (64.4% ABV)

Most rums don't get much darker than this edition in the natural way, i.e. without additives. The Duchess doesn’t use additives or coloring and all release are bottled at cask strength. A dark yet black espresso color is something we are proud to add to our tropical reef fish series. The previous Ten Cane release from the tropical hummingbirds Series was a Duchess favorite. Something that we have often enjoyed ourselves; With a glass from time to time. And with the Ten Cane release in the Hummingbird series the Duchess contributed to the hype and international focus surrounding this illustrious closed distillery.

This Ten Cane has undergone a tropical aging of 7 years, which naturally contributed to the deep dark color of this rum. Of course the color is fantastic, but it's all about the taste experience.

Nose: The nose immediately grabs you in all its facets. Raisins, almonds and ripe fruit immediately play with your olfactory organ. This Ten cane is nice and elegant. In the background, licorice, licorice root and lightly burnt rubber play with the nose accompanied by some red forest fruit.

Taste; The taste is nicely balanced with the nose. This really reminds me of a good Caroni; licorice, licorice root, Burnt rubber, burnt wood chips and some light caramel notes. Obviously some menthol notes are released in the background and come at play.

Finish: Nice long drop tones and burnt rubber, delicious! This is what Trinidad is known for! After some time it evolves in almost creamy notes.. wow factor!

Balance and complexity; The smell and taste are very nicely balanced, this is also much more complex and much more sophisticated than the 11 year old we have previously released, if we compare the two; This release has a plus on almost all points compared to the 11-year-old that we released in the hummingbirds series. We dream away wonderfully imagining us chilling at Trinidad!
