This Burnside 2011 by Cane & Grain is a Speyside blended malt often referred to as a “teaspooned” whisky, with Balvenie as its base. A minimal addition of another malt means it can no longer be labelled as a single malt, while the core character remains largely intact.
On the nose, it opens warm and refined, with honey, ripe apple and soft vanilla. Gentle spice and a subtle floral note add lift and elegance.
On the palate, the higher strength brings intensity without becoming overwhelming. Sweet notes of caramel and fruit are balanced by spice and a hint of almond, creating a well-rounded yet lively whisky.
The finish is long and warming, with soft spice, light oak and lingering honeyed sweetness fading gradually.
