This rum is created through a collaboration between the French distillery Naud and the Venezuelan Destilería Sofa. The project combines Venezuelan rum-making traditions with the Naud family’s expertise in ageing and blending.
The rum is made from molasses derived from sugar cane grown on fertile lands near Caracas. After fermentation, it is distilled in a column still and then aged for twelve years in ex-bourbon barrels in Venezuela’s tropical climate, where the alternating warm days and cooler nights promote active maturation.
Following this tropical ageing period, the rum is transported to France where it spends around six additional months in French oak casks in the Naud family cellars. This final maturation stage adds extra aromatic depth and gentle oak complexity.
The nose reveals notes of caramel and muscovado sugar with hints of coconut, cedarwood and oak. On the palate it is silky and structured with flavours of roasted coffee beans, fig jam and pastry-like sweetness. The finish is persistent with soft spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg together with vanilla.
