For drinkers looking for mature Caroni, this bottling delivers the qualities that made the distillery so sought after: character, depth and a profile that immediately sets it apart from more standard aged rum. This single cask was distilled on 30 January 1998 at Caroni in Trinidad and bottled on 18 February 2022 by Duncan Taylor as part of the Quarterdeck range. It comes from cask number 37, with an outturn of 281 bottles and a bottling strength of 50.7% ABV.
In the glass, it shows the darker and more mature side of Caroni. Across the available listings, notes of tropical fruit, leather, tobacco, oak, smoke, caramel and spice appear, alongside coffee, butter, nutmeg, banana and a drier woody finish. The result is a rum with real layering: rich and powerful, but not simply heavy. That balance of ripeness, spice and dryness is what gives it appeal for drinkers who want more from Caroni than just force.
What makes this bottle especially interesting is that the age adds more than rarity. The long maturation appears to have brought extra concentration and length, while leaving the identifiable Caroni character intact. It is therefore a bottling that will particularly suit drinkers who enjoy aged Trinidad rum with depth, firm oak influence and a classic Caroni profile.
