This release is a variation of the well-known 1796 rum from Santa Teresa, produced at Hacienda Santa Teresa in Venezuela. The distillery has been producing rum for centuries and the 1796 range is particularly known for its use of the traditional solera ageing method, where rums of different ages mature together through a sequence of casks.
For this edition the rum receives an additional maturation in casks previously used for Arabica coffee. This finishing stage adds extra aromatic depth while maintaining the recognizable profile of the original rum.
The nose offers aromas of freshly roasted coffee beans, cocoa and toasted nuts, supported by caramel, vanilla and gentle oak. Subtle hints of dark chocolate and warming spices add further complexity.
On the palate the rum is rich and rounded with flavours of toffee, coffee and brown sugar. The influence of the coffee casks introduces roasted notes and a delicate bitterness that balances the sweetness. The finish is long and warming with lingering cocoa and spice.
