The Tomintoul distillery has been able to use a number of Sauternes wine barrels to make a special "Limited Edition". This Tomintoul whisky was distilled in 2004 and initially put in ex-Bourbon barrels. After this, the whisky was put in the Sauternes casks to give extra depth and complexity to the taste.
Nose: Fragrant aromas of yellow fruit and orange marmalade mixed with grapefruit, lemon cake and honeysuckle.
Palate: Spicy and sweet with layers of acacia honey, dried papaya and Galia melon, a sweet choux batter, cardamom and soft tobacco spice.
Finish: Lemon curd and apricot jam transition to cinnamon, baked apple. After that, roasted oak wood remains for a long time.
