This single cask release from Plantation originates from Beenleigh Artisan Distillers, one of Australia’s oldest operating distilleries. Distilled in 2009, this rum underwent a carefully structured maturation that highlights both origin and cask influence.
It was initially aged for 11 years in ex-bourbon casks under tropical conditions, followed by 1 year of continental ageing in Ferrand casks in France. The rum then received a 4-month finish in a Palo Cortado sherry cask, adding depth and subtle oxidative character without overpowering the base.
On the nose, it opens with ripe and fresh fruit such as pear, mandarin marmalade and dried apricot, supported by citrus zest and a slight grapefruit bitterness. Layers of spice emerge with notes of pepper, clove, cinnamon and anise, alongside nutty hints of pistachio and delicate sherry influence.
The palate shows a well-balanced integration of fruit, oak and cask influence. Chocolate and almond form the base, followed by cherry, blueberry and banana. A gentle bitterness of orange peel and a soft floral touch of rose lead into a refined finish.
