A single cask rum from Trinidad, distilled in 2008 and finished in a Sauvignon Blanc wine cask. Fresh fruit, floral notes, spice and a lively finish give this release a brighter and more distinctive profile than oak alone would suggest. Read more..
This Trinidad is shaped not just by age, but by the way the wine cask finish alters the final profile. Distilled at Trinidad Distillers Limited, the rum first matured for 11 years in bourbon casks, then spent a further 2 years in Ferrand casks before receiving a 9 month finish in a Sauvignon Blanc wine cask. That final stage gives the rum a brighter and more aromatic direction than its age statement alone might suggest.
On the nose it opens fresh and fragrant, with fruity, floral and grassy notes built around citrus, honey and blackcurrant bud. From there it moves into vanilla, pepper, curry, box tree and nuts. The palate stays lively, showing banana, passion fruit, gooseberry jam, green apple and green pepper. The result is a rum that combines maturity and cask influence with a profile that keeps its tension and freshness.
Rather than leaning fully into oak and weight, this bottling keeps a lighter and more lifted side in view. The long maturation provides structure, while the Sauvignon Blanc finish adds extra brightness and aromatic detail. That makes it especially interesting for drinkers who like aged rum with spice, fruit and freshness still clearly in place. This final point is an inference based on the published maturation details and tasting notes.
