Senior & Co produces this blue Curaçao liqueur at the historic Landhuis Chobolobo distillery on the island of Curaçao. The Senior family has been crafting liqueurs here since the late 19th century and is widely recognised as the producer of the original Curaçao liqueur.
The flavour of the liqueur comes from the laraha orange, a citrus fruit unique to Curaçao. These oranges originated from Spanish varieties introduced in the 16th century but evolved into a smaller and highly aromatic fruit due to the island’s dry climate. The dried peels are the key ingredient used in production.
To create the liqueur, the peels are dried and infused in alcohol to release their essential oils. This process produces a citrus liqueur with a balanced combination of sweetness, freshness and gentle bitterness.
The blue version has the same flavour profile as the traditional Curaçao liqueur, but its colour is added during production. The bright blue appearance makes it especially popular in cocktails.
The aroma shows fresh citrus oils and orange peel. On the palate the liqueur is lively with flavours of sweet orange, light bitterness and subtle spice. The finish is crisp and citrus-driven.
Because of its striking colour, it is widely used in cocktails such as the Blue Lagoon and other tropical mixed drinks.
