This liqueur is produced by Senior & Co at the historic Landhuis Chobolobo distillery on the Caribbean island of Curaçao. The family-owned company has been producing the original Curaçao liqueur since 1896 and is known for using laraha, a unique bitter orange that grows exclusively on the island.
Laraha originated from Spanish Valencia oranges brought to Curaçao in the 16th century. Due to the island’s dry climate the fruit evolved into a smaller, highly aromatic orange. The dried peels of this fruit are the key ingredient used in the production of Curaçao liqueur.
During production the peels are first dried and then soaked in alcohol to extract their essential oils. The aromatic infusion is then blended with alcohol and sugar to create a balanced liqueur with a distinctive citrus profile.
The nose reveals fresh aromas of orange peel, citrus oils and gentle spice. On the palate the liqueur is bright and aromatic with flavours of sweet orange, subtle bitterness and light herbal notes. The finish is fresh with lingering citrus.
A classic Curaçao liqueur that works beautifully in cocktails such as a Margarita, Mai Tai or Cosmopolitan, but can also be enjoyed neat or over ice.
