The name Fumée Volcanique — “Volcanic Smoke” — is no metaphor. This rum is aged for 12 to 14 months in deeply charred ex-bourbon barrels, a technique known as “alligator charring” for the cracked, scaled appearance of the barrel’s interior. This intense charring imparts layers of smoky, toasty depth that marry beautifully with the fresh, vegetal vibrance of Rhum Agricole.
